FAQ ANSWERS
THE LDS LINKUP SERVICE
LDS LinkUp is a new and different
kind of introduction service where friends help their friends find Ms. or Mr. Right.
LDS LinkUp takes a different approach than most online
dating services by making it easy for singles, their friends, their friends’ friends,
and so on, to
combine their lists of eligible matches to build large groups of
potential mates.
And because each group is built by invitation
- you invite your friends, they invite their friends, etc. - members are
pre-screened. Each member has been hand-picked by a friend in the group.
LDS LinkUp also provides state-of-the-art matching
tools to help you find the perfect match from your exclusive dating group.
You can search for members who fit specific criteria, or browse to see who
invited whom. Or you can set the LDS LinkUp Agent to seek matches on your
behalf.
LDS LinkUp puts your network on
steroids to help you find your match. It allows you to systematically
leverage your friends' rolodex to build your own personalized pool of potential
matches.

friends, and beyond
-

How is LDS LinkUp different from online dating services?
Unlike traditional online dating services,
LDS LinkUp does not broadcast your personal profile to a vast group of
strangers. Instead, LDS LinkUp helps each member and his friends leverage
their personal
networks to build an invitation-only pool of eligible singles.
Unlike traditional online dating services,
LDS LinkUp
-
Is exclusive/invitation-only
- Although anyone can join LDS LinkUp, only people who are invited can join your
personal
LDS LinkUp dating group
-
Leverages your non-single friends who want to help -
LDS LinkUp helps you and your friends build a group of eligible singles based on
your combined personal networks. You and your single friends can all
benefit from this pool of potential matches. Your non-single friends can
also help by bringing their single friends into the group
-
Provides better information
about potential matches - Because everyone at LDS LinkUp is known by his
friends, LDS LinkUp can make available friends'
comments about members. The comments provide important context - and a
reality check - on what the member says about himself
-
Gives you control of your profile
- At LDS LinkUp, you decide who can view your profile. If you wish, you can
restrict viewership to the members of your exclusive dating group
Top
- I'm already
using online dating, why should I join LDS LinkUp too?
LDS LinkUp is complementary to other online dating services, because it opens up an
entirely different pool of potential matches - your extended social network. Even if you're already using
an online dating service, you can benefit from LDS LinkUp's approach.
Top
Anyone can join LDS LinkUp by
starting his or her own LDS LinkUp group and inviting his friends to join.
Only people who are invited by a member of the group, however, can join an existing LDS LinkUp
group.
Top
-
Who should use LDS LinkUp?
LDS LinkUp is ideal for people who
want the benefits of online dating - a large pool of potential matches,
search capability - but who aren't comfortable broadcasting their personal
profile to strangers. LDS LinkUp allows its members to apply the advantages of
online dating
to their own personal networks. The result is the best of both worlds.
LDS LinkUp is also perfect for people
who are already
using online dating, but who also want to make the most of
their personal network to find the perfect mate.
Top
- How
much does it cost to use LDS LinkUp?
Basic membership at LDS LinkUp is free. You can
create or join a group, invite others to join, post your personal profile (with
photos), search or browse your network to find potential matches, create a
"watch list" of interesting listings, or review photos of LDS LinkUp members at no
charge.
Charges apply only if you want to
sign up for one of our premium services, or if you find a potential match and want to communicate with him or her.
At that time, you can choose from a range of
subscription options that allow you to
send and receive messages. Subscriptions start at under $25.

YOUR LDS LINKUP GROUP
-
What is a LDS LinkUp "group"?
Your LDS LinkUp group is the collection of all LDS LinkUp members you are connected
to by invitation. It is the people you invite, plus the people they
invite, plus the people they invite, and so on. It also includes the
person who invited you and his or her LDS LinkUp group.
Top
-
How do I build my LDS LinkUp group?
You and your friends build your LDS LinkUp group by
invitation. A major key to success is to invite the right friends, to encourage them to sign up, and to see that they, in turn, invite
others. The best invitees:
-
Are eligible singles you
would introduce to other friends without hesitation
-
Are likely to know other
interesting singles that you would like to have in your network
-
Will actively participate in
LDS LinkUp, inviting their friends and encouraging them to join
You should also invite your non-single friends, who are not "in the market"
themselves and do not post profiles, but who can play an important role
by
inviting other members and building your network.
Top
-
Can anyone join my LDS LinkUp group?
No. Only people who are invited by you or by
other members of your group can join your group. On the other hand, anyone
can found his own group.
Top
An invitee is a friend of a LDS LinkUp member who has
been invited to join his group.
Top
An invitor is the friend who invited
a given member of LDS LinkUp to join his group. When viewing the friends of
any LDS LinkUp member, his invitor will be indicated with an asterisk next to his
screen name.
Top
-
How long will it take to build my group?
If you have been invited to join an existing group, you will immediately
inherit the group of your
invitor and can build
from there. If you are creating a new group, you will be starting from
scratch.
The speed at which your group grows is up to you.
Growth will be
determined by how quickly you invite friends and get them to sign up, and by how
quickly they get their friends to sign up. Fortunately, the structure of LDS LinkUp
helps build groups quickly. Check out our
Growth Calculator to see how fast your group can grow!
Building a LDS LinkUp group is an
investment in your future, and requires some patience. All the better
reason to start today!
Top
-
Can I view profiles immediately?
Yes.
You will immediately be able to view the profiles of LDS LinkUp members who have
chosen to make their profiles visible to all LDS LinkUp members. In addition, if you have been invited to join an existing
group, you will immediately be
able to view the profiles in that group. If you are starting a new
group, you will be able to view profiles in your group as it grows.

INVITING YOUR FRIENDS
-
Why
is it important that I invite my friends to join LDS LinkUp?
Your LDS LinkUp group is built by
invitation. Although you inherit the group of the friend who invited you, your
goal is to expand your pool of eligible singles by inviting your friends.
The more high-quality people you invite, the more they will invite and the better
chance you will have of finding your Ms. or Mr. Right.
Top
-
Who should I invite to join LDS LinkUp?
The size of your LDS LinkUp group and the quality of the potential
matches will depend on the friends you invite and
on their willingness and ability to bring other interesting singles to your
network. The best invitees:
-
Are eligible singles you
would introduce to your other friends without hesitation
-
Are likely to know other
interesting singles that you would like to have in your network
-
Will actively participate in
LDS LinkUp, inviting other members and encouraging them to join
Remember to invite your non-single friends as well,
as they play an important role by inviting other interesting singles to your
group.
Top
-
How should I follow up after sending an
invitation?
Experience shows that it is most
effective to follow up each email invitation with a timely telephone call to
explain what LDS LinkUp is and encourage your invitee to join. Some people
are reluctant to join any Internet service, let alone one devoted to romance. By following up with a call, you show
that you are
serious in your effort to find a match and that you value their help in the
process.
In the event that an invitee has
not responded to your invitation within a week, we recommend that you send a
follow up email encouraging them to respond to the original invitation.
Top
-
What happens if I invite someone who is
already a member of LDS LinkUp?
When an existing LDS LinkUp member
accepts your invitation, your group immediately expands to include him and his
existing LDS LinkUp group. Similarly, anyone who accepts your invitation
adds your entire group to his.
Top
-
What happens if I invite someone who doesn't
want to join?
Your invitee can simply decline the invitation with
a couple of mouse clicks. No harm done. You can check the status of
your invitations by clicking on the Invite menu at the top of most LDS LinkUp
pages.
Top
-
Can I review the invitations I
have sent and their status?
Yes. Just click on the Invite menu at the top of most LDS LinkUp pages.
Top
-
Should I continue to invite more friends over time?
Absolutely. You and your
friends will benefit by adding new, high-quality members to your group.
And the people you invite will in turn invite interesting new singles that you
may want to meet.

YOUR LDS LINKUP PROFILE
Your screen name is the name that people at LDS LinkUp
will know you by. For everyone's safety and comfort, LDS LinkUp keeps real
names and email addresses confidential.
Note that your real name is used when you invite a
friend and that the friend's real name is used to personalize the invitation
email.

Your headline acts as the title of your personal LDS LinkUp profile. It can
be up to 65 characters long and is typically an appropriate catch phrase or a set of adjectives that describes
you. Of course it cannot contain
inappropriate sexual content.
Top
-
What should I put in my self description?
Your self description is your chance to tell a potential match about yourself:
what you like, what you hate, what you do for work, what you do for fun, what
you do on steamy Saturday nights and what you do on lazy Sunday mornings.
Your self description is critical in giving potential matches a sense of your
personality and what you're about. Of course, like your headline, your self
description cannot contain inappropriate sexual content. Your self
description can be up to 1500 characters long.
Top
-
Should I put my name, email address, or
telephone number in my profile?
Absolutely not. LDS LinkUp
values our members' confidentiality and has designed LDS LinkUp to be a good
environment in which to meet and communicate with other singles without
revealing contact information. LDS LinkUp's
Terms of Service specifically prohibit members from disclosing names, email
addresses, or telephone numbers in member profiles.
Top
-
What is a "match headline"?
Your match headline is a collection of adjectives or a phrase that captures what
you are looking for in a match. A loving nature, a bubbly personality, a
beautiful face, a deep wallet, or a sporting partner, your match headline
distills what you are looking for into 65 characters or fewer. Of course
it cannot contain inappropriate sexual content.
Top
-
What should I put in my match
description?
Your match description is the place to describe in more detail what you are
seeking in a match. Desired personality traits, physical features,
interests and hobbies all will help potential matches screen themselves while
getting a better understanding of you. Of course, your match description
cannot contain inappropriate sexual content. Like your self description,
your match description can be up to 1000 characters in length.
Top
-
Do I need to fill out all
the detailed information about myself and my ideal match?
Most people using LDS LinkUp want
to have more information rather than less about potential matches before initiating
contact. The details you provide give people a better sense of who you are
and what you're looking for in a match, both of which are key to the selection
process. Most members will want to see this information
before either sending you a message or responding to a message you send.
It is in your best interest to provide as much information as possible.
Top
-
How do I view my own
profile?
You can view your own profile by clicking on the
"Profile" menu on any LDS LinkUp
page. Once on the Create/Update Your Profile page, click on the "View profile"
link. Alternatively, you can select "View Your Profile" from the drop-down
"Profile" menu on any LDS LinkUp page.

PHOTOS
-
Do I need to post photos?
We strongly encourage you to post a photo, whether
you're 'in the market" or not.
If you're single, you should be aware that
profiles with photos get far
more attention than profiles without. The fact is that
looking at a photo is an important part of most people's process for selecting a
potential match.
If you're not single / not looking, posting a
photo helps identify you to your friends and helps make LDS LinkUp more fun; your
photo will be visible only to members of you own LDS LinkUp group.
Top
-
What kind of photos are
best?
All kinds of photos can work,
provided that they a) show you clearly and b) make it clear which person is you.
For this reason, we recommend photos where you are the only or the primary
person. We also recommend that at least one of your photos (LDS LinkUp allows
you to post 3 with your profile) be a close-up and that one of your photos show
your whole physique.
Top
-
What is LDS LinkUp's policy
about unacceptable photos?
LDS LinkUp reserves the right to
reject any photo that we, for any reason, feel is inappropriate. Examples
of inappropriate photos include those that contain nudity, sexually explicit
themes, or profanity. LDS LinkUp reviews all photos before posting and
reserves the right to remove any photo after posting, at our discretion.
See LDS LinkUp's Terms of Service.
Top
-
What is my "primary" photo?
You must designate one of your
three photos as your primary photo. It is "Photo 1" when you are adding or
updating your photos. The primary photo is shown with the short
version of your profile and is shown in a larger size than your other photos in
the detailed version of your profile.
Top
-
How do I add photos to my
profile?
The best way to add photos is to
upload
digital photo files (preferably .jpg files) directly, either during the sign-up
process, or by choosing "Profile" from the menu bar at the top of most LDS LinkUp
pages and clicking on "Add Photos".
Please note that LDS LinkUp will resize larger photos
to optimize download times for our users. In addition, LDS LinkUp does not allow
members to upload photos larger than 500kb.
If you have only photos larger than 500kb, please email them as attachments to
photos@ldslinkup.com.
Please include your member email address and password in your message.
If you do not have digital
versions of your photos, you can create them from traditional photo prints by
using a desktop scanner, if you have one. If you don't own a scanner, take
your photos to a photo
finishing outlet, most of which have scanners. For a limited time, LDS LinkUp
is also offering a free service to scan traditional photo prints for your
profile. See the entry below.
Top
To upload photos, choose "Profile" from the menu
bar at the top of most LDS LinkUp pages, then click on "Add Photos". You will see three blank form fields for the names of your
three digital photo files. Press the top "Browse" button (for
Photo #1) and browse
through your computer files until you find and select your
primary photo.
Next, press the second "Browse" button to find and select your second photo, and
the third "Browse" button to find and select your third photo. Once you
have selected all three digital photo files, press "Upload". After the
files have uploaded successfully, you will see confirmation.
Please note that the best size for your photo is
approximately 500 pixels in the larger dimension in a .jpg file. LDS LinkUp will resize larger photos
to optimize download times for our users. In addition, LDS LinkUp does not allow
members to upload photos larger than 500kb.
If you have only photos larger than 500kb, please email them as attachments to
photos@ldslinkup.com.
Please include your member email address and password in your message.
Typically, it takes 24 to 48 hours for LDS LinkUp to
approve and post your photos.

- What if I
don't have any digital photos?
If you do not have digital
versions of your photos, you have a few options. You can:
-
Use a scanner (yours or a friend's) to
create digital photos from traditional prints, or
-
Go to a camera store or Walgreens, Kinkos,
Costco, etc. to have them scan the

Instructions: 1) Write your name, email address, and LDS LinkUp

How long will it take for my
photos to appear once I have submitted them?
It typically takes 24 to 48 hours

you email photos it can take up to twice as long. Of course, unacceptable
photos will not be posted. Prints mailed to LDS LinkUp will typically be
posted within 72 hours from the time we receive them.

FRIENDS' COMMENTS
-
What are "friends'
comments"?
Friends' comments are a unique feature of LDS LinkUp,
where a member's friends - the person
who invited the member plus the people the member invited - write short comments
about the member. These descriptions, adjectives, and stories about each
member from people who know him best can provide invaluable independent points of view
that complement a member's own self description.
Top
-
What should I say when
commenting on a friend?
Friends' comments are most
effective when they give an independent perspective on a member's person and
personality. A few well-chosen adjectives, a description in your own
words, or even a telling anecdote can be very valuable to someone who might want
to meet your friend.
Of course, as a friend you are not
expected to focus on weaknesses. Nevertheless, what you choose to
emphasize will communicate your friend's areas of relative strength.
Top
-
Should I use my friend's
name when writing my comment?
No. Please use your friend's screen name only.
LDS LinkUp wants to protect the privacy and identity of its members.
Therefore, our
Terms of Service
prohibit using your friend's name, email address, or phone number in your comments.
Top
-
Will my friend know which
comment is from me?
Yes.
Your screen name will be associated with your comment.
Top
-
What happens if I don't make
a comment about one of my friends?
Your comments about each of
your friends (the people you invited plus the people who invited you) are very important. Because friends' comments provide such
a valuable perspective, listings without comments (like listings without photos)
get less attention and draw fewer messages than listings with comments.
Hence, you essentially owe your friends (most of whom you invited to
join!) your best effort at insightful comments.

RESPONDING TO INVITATIONS
-
Why should I accept an
invitation to join LDS LinkUp?
There are three reasons to accept
a friend's invitation to join LDS LinkUp: to help your friend, to help yourself,
and to help your other single friends.
-
You can help your friend by
helping him build his LDS LinkUp group. Your friend is using LDS LinkUp to help
find the perfect match among people in his extended social network. You can help your friend grow
his group of high-quality singles by joining yourself and inviting your single
friends to join as well.
-
You can help yourself, if
you are single and looking, by taking advantage of the LDS LinkUp group you are
helping your friend build. If you, too, are looking for a unique source of
potential matches, accepting your friend's invitation can give you a great start.
When you accept the invitation, you inherit the your friend's LDS LinkUp group. When you invite your friends to join and they invite their
friends, you all benefit.
-
And you can help your other
single friends by bringing them into your LDS LinkUp group and share with them
the
benefits of the LDS LinkUp service.
Top
-
What are my options when I
receive an invitation?
When you receive an invitation to
join LDS LinkUp as a member, you have four options:
-
Accept the invitation as a single
member - this will add you to the invitor's group. You will be asked
to fill in information for your own LDS LinkUp profile and to invite your single
friends to join the group.
-
Accept the invitation as a not single/not looking member - this will add you to the invitor's
group, but you won't fill out a profile or appear in other people's searches. You will still be asked
to invite your friends to join the group and to comment on your friends.
-
Decline the invitation but start your own LDS LinkUp
group - the invitor will be told that you have declined
his invitation to join his group. He will not be told that you are
creating your own LDS LinkUp group.
-
Decline the invitation -
the invitor will be told that you have declined his invitation to join his
group.
Top
-
What happens if I accept an
invitation?
When you accept an invitation, you
immediately become part of the invitor's group. Similarly, if you are already a LDS LinkUp member and have
your own group, your group and the invitor's group will be merged.
Top
-
What happens if I want to
help my friend, but don't want to use LDS LinkUp myself?
If you are not interested in using
LDS LinkUp yourself but know some eligible singles who might want to join the
invitor's network, then you should accept the invitation as a not single/not
looking member.
You can then help your friend by inviting others to join the group, but you
will not have your own LDS LinkUp profile.
Top
-
What happens if someone I don't feel
comfortable with invites me to join his group?
You can (and should) decline the
invitation. You have a responsibility both to yourself and to the other
members of your group not to introduce people you don't feel comfortable with.
When you decline an invitation,
the invitor does not necessarily know whether you declined because you don't
want to join LDS LinkUp or because you don't want to join his/her group.
If you are interested in LDS LinkUp
but do not want to join the group of an invitor, you can always create your
own group and build it by inviting people you do feel comfortable with.
Top
-
What happens if I decline an
invitation?
When you decline an invitation,
the invitor is notified that you have declined, and you are not added to the
invitor's group. If you are already a member of LDS LinkUp with your own
group, your group and the invitor's group remain distinct and separate.

SEARCHING WHO NEW
-
What are my search options at LDS LinkUp?
LDS LinkUp gives you a variety of tools for finding
your match among LDS LinkUp's members. You can do a quick or an advanced search
to find members matching basic criteria. You can do a keyword search to
find members who use specific words in their self and match descriptions.
You can search for specific members using their screen name. You can save
quick or advanced searches to use them again later. You can also choose
whether to search just you group or all LDS LinkUp members.
Top
-
What is the difference
between a "quick" search and an "advanced" search?
A quick search allows you to

search. An advanced search allows these four criteria, and in addition allows you to
specify many other attributes, including physical, ethnic, occupational, and
religious parameters.
Top

visibility preference
allows you to view their profile. The results are
color-coded to let you
know which member comes from your group and which from the rest of LDS LinkUp.
Top
- Why do different members' listings have different colors?
